"Get fit without getting hit"

The Burnewood Community League has been offering a Kickboxing program for the last few years. Our instructor, two-time Canadian Champion Gasper Bonomo, has been a practitioner of the sport for over 20 years and was first drawn to Kickboxing by its self defense/combat characteristics. Gasper is very well respected amongs the Kickboxing community, so much so that the Edmonton Journal ran a feature on him last year in an effort to more widely publicize the sport. Gasper's involvement with the league began when one of his students at GMCC, a resident of the Burnewood Community approached the Executive about running a Kickboxing program at the hall. The proram proved to be a hit from day one!

Kickboxing has been around a very long time; over 2000 years to be more precise. It first surfaced in Thailand as a combat skill used on the battlefield. Over the years it has made the transition into the sporting environment and has spread internationally. It now has its own federation and set of rules and regulations and is popular around the world.

The majority of students who enrol in a kickboxing program do so to get a great aerobic workout and to develop their self defense skills. Less than 5% however ever make the move into the ring.
